The KVM Extenders from G&D extend computer signals. A KVM Extender consists of a computer module and a user module.

KVM Switches

The KVM switches are used to operate 2 - 256 computers via one or two concurrent workstations. The switches are always stand-alone devices. Only the ControlCenter 1 range offers an extra workstation module in addition to the changeover switch.

The KVM switches switch the following signals:

KVM Matrixswitches compact

Description

With the compact KVM Matrixswitches you control computers over several different workplaces. The G&D products allow a flexible and decentral operation of large or distributed IT installations.

The access to the servers is carried out over up to 128 simultaneous workplaces, which are connected to the Matrixswitches locally or remote over CAT cables or over IP. The descriptions display the maximum expansion stage.

Three different systems are available.

CATCenter X and CATCenter NEO products can be combined. The CompactCenter works independent from the two other systems.

 

DVICenter DP32 system

HardBoot

Description

The HardBoot is a remote power switch. It makes it possible to switch on and off remoy separated target devices such as servers, routers and hubs.

 

The HardBoot master can switch the power supplies for up to 8 target devices. The number of switchable ports is increased to 40 through the cascading of the HardBoot master with up to 4 slaves.

 

With two independent, redundant power circuits, and the possibility of combining up to three powerports into a group and then switching these together, this system is ideal for "mission critical"? servers with redundantly configured power supplies.

Deployment scenarios

The HardBoot application can be flexibly used with or without the master device:

  • Deployment as a stand-alone
    The master is connected to the network by means of an IP address. Hence, the control is handled via Ethernet. In case of cascading, the slaves are connected as with a bus.

 

 

Installation

The target devices are connected by a standard electrical power cable with the HardBoot. After a successful initial installation by means of a terminal program, the HardBoot master is then connected to the network via the link interface.

 

Using the toolware HardBoot view, you then have immediate access to all necessary settings and can already work with the system. When in operation with a KVM switch, you connect the first slave with the serial connection of the KVM switch.

 

Redundancy

Every HardBoot works with two independent power circuits (phases) which are galvanically separated.

 

This is an important function for "mission critical" servers, as with this up to three power sources can be assigned cross-phase to a server. In case of failure of a power source, the supply of power to the target device remains assured through the redundancy.

 

Of course, the independent power circuits can be switched together, enabling a defined switching of the server. Up to 3 power sources can be combined in a group and switched together.

The engineering for motor engines has today reached a very high level. The ratio between engine power and engine weight has been constantly improved and the attainable running distances have become ever longer. These improvements were achieved, for example, by increasing the component rigidity of the crankshaft, and by reducing friction wear to the camshaft, drag levers and tappets.

For decades, the motor industry has produced cylinder blocks from casting materials specifically matched to the interactions between bore, piston ring and lubricant in order to achieve satisfactory running performance. The decisive factor for the running properties is the constitution of the surface of the cylinder bore.

The multi-step honed surface of a modern grey-cast cylinder block displays a surface with honing striation running at a defined angle and with a number of openly visible graphite flakes, which are intended to maintain sufficient lubrication of the bore and piston ring.

The honing striation permits the passage of lubricant in the direction of the combustion space, and the graphite flakes smeared over during the honing process reduce the retention of oil.

This is where the Excimer laser is able to help. If the surface of a cylinder bore pretreated in a special honing process is subjected to the laser beams of the Excimer laser in an appropriate manner, this produces a surface structure in which the cavities of the graphite flakes are uncovered. Engine oil collects in these cavities. This produces microscopic pressure chambers which optimise the lubrication of the system “piston ring - cylinder”.

A system suitable for industrial use has been developed within the framework of the BMB-sponsored project “Precision treatment of cylinder bores for internal combustion engines with UV photons” pursued jointly by the companies Audi AG, Ingolstadt, SMS Elotherm GmbH, Remscheid, and LAMDA PHYSIK, Göttingen, together with the institute ATZ EVUS in Vilseck.

Ready for series implementation in the motor industry, the system can even be integrated into existing production lines.

Thixotropic forming is a process related to die-casting that allows the continuous production of high-grade components from aluminum alloys. A crucial feature of this process is the thixotropic condition of the alloy. The alloy must reside in a closely defined range between the solid and liquid states. It is precisely for this purpose that we developed the ELOTHIX system, which is an automated line capable of cycle times of as little as 50 seconds using, for example, 5 Elothix units and the corresponding additional modules.

To define a single process with a high degree of accuracy it is essential to have the experience and capabilities to understand the complexity of the entire system. One particular example of this is SMS Elotherm's induction stirring of aluminum alloys and the subsequent thixotropic forming stage.

Here, two technological applications that must be ideally matched to each other are merged. SMS Elotherm's electromagnetic stirrer - already a worldwide standard in the continuous casting of steel - has been redesigned with helicoidal stirrers for non-ferrous metals as a precondition for the innovative application of thixotropic forming technology. This system guarantees that the aluminum alloy has the ideal fine-grained structure for subsequent forming.

An all-around answer for tubes
Versatile induction and conduction heating of tubes is key to increased productivity and quality assurance. HF straight seam welding for tubes and shaped sections, MF seam annealing, induction tube heating for a range of subsequent processes such as sizing, tube bending, tempering, coating etc. are key aspects of this technology. A decisive factor in the manufacture of tubes is the precise matching of all the machining processes to each other. This is where SMS Elotherm's experience and skill come in.

SMS Elotherm tube-welding systems are designed as economical modular units based on tran sistor technology ranging from 50-2000 kW. The ideal frequency selected from a range of 50-600 kHz guarantees optimal conditions for HF welding of steel, aluminum, brass or copper. Seam-annealing systems built by SMS Elotherm, for tube diameters from 3 to 24 inches, provide perfect seam annealing thanks to optimally controlled power distribution matched to the tube speed. Speeds adjusted to suit the welding process, optimal frequency selection, process data monitoring and management ensure a uniform, homogeneous seam with continuous precision.
